esigned by Plan E as an outdoor
revitalisation area for Bankwest staff,
this podium-level landscape acts as
a space for entertaining.
The brief required an area with a completely
outdoors feel, where staff could relax and
reinvigorate before returning to work.
With a barbecue, ambient lighting and multiple
seating areas, the space successfully offers both
social and peaceful functionality. However, the
location ‒ a busy city centre ‒ offered particularly
difficult construction logistics, with all material
having to be craned into position from three
storeys above ground level.

finish, quality furniture and a simple use of space,
the contemporary, open-air design offers up a
refreshing urban escape.
The combination of exposed aggregated
concrete, steel and glazed brickwork creates
a clean, streamlined ambience, complemented
by the building’s glass exterior, which emphasises
the sense of light and openness of the area.
A Corten steel water feature, large potted trees,
striking outdoor furniture and an innovative living
wall of bright foliage interject a natural element,
which is harmonised by accents of raw and
polished cedar timber furnishings.
A geometric mural by Woods Painting unifies
the citrus and magenta tones found throughout,
perfectly fusing the modern simplicity and
invigorating the character of the space.
The concrete and steel shade structure provides
an aspect of seclusion from the city, while
delivering an aesthetically pleasing solution to
The mix of vibrant artwork and painting
schemes with earthy accents and pragmatic
functionality provide a sophisticated modern
twist to the urban breakout space.
