Through the internal arrangement of space
and the elevational treatments, the design also
maximises the number of staff members with
access to natural sunlight and a view outside.
A central part of the design was to encourage
staff and students to use the stairs instead of the
lifts by ensuring they are easily accessible and in an
attractive, light-filled environment.
The decision to bridge a single-storey existing
building structure resulted in a series of pre-cast
faceted arch segments, which also developed the
patterning to the east and west facades.
The existing campus context was used as the
basis for the contemporary external material
selection. The material palette from Stage One was
also used to achieve a coherent precinct, while
sunshades introduce hints of colour to the largely
unembellished external materials.
Taylor Robinson Architects would like to
acknowledge the work completed by BADGE, the
Curtin University Planning & Project Management
teams and federal government funding (Education
Investment Fund) in the delivery of this project.
