development to create a coherent
engineering precinct at Curtin
University, Building 216 is a new
research centre that embraces flexibility
and natural light.
The project began with a collaborative
endeavour between design and services
professionals, together with university and faculty,
to realise the vision of providing a multi-purpose
facility within the Science and Engineering hub.
Individual and common spaces encourage
the sharing of ideas between staff and students
at all levels, which in turn fosters a vibrant
Each floor plate was designed with the ability
to be configured in numerous ways, to suit the
changing needs of the university. Negotiating
a tight space with a variety of competing floor
levels, typical workstation modules informed
the structural grid dimensions to strive for
maximum efficiency across the floor plates.
