Joondalup Private Hospital | Silver Thomas Hanley | HEALTH INSTITUTIONAL
reating the right ambience while
allowing for the flexibility of future
expansion, without impacting daily
operations, was a key component of
the brief for Silver Thomas Hanley when designing
the new Joondalup Private Hospital.
As cost was a primary concern at each stage
of the project, links to the existing hospital,
support services and operational flow needed to
be as efficient as possible in terms of reducing
capital cost, minimising operational cost and
ensuring patient safety. Being linked to a public
hospital, it was also important to the client that the
new private hospital conveyed a distinct difference
in both quality and exclusivity.
The interior design palette was inspired by the
natural colours sourced from the local Yellagonga
Regional Park. Rich timbers and complementing
neutral tones combine to create a soothing interior.
Silver Thomas Hanley worked in collaboration
with Peter Hunt Architects on the facade of the
building to create a sleek exterior.
Access to natural light is often viewed as a key
component to health and wellness, therefore
introducing controlled natural light was an essential
part of the overall design. Large windows feature
strongly in patient rooms, while glass curtain walls
in some corridors, lobbies and reception areas help
create a fresh, inviting atmosphere.
Further adding to the feel of an exclusive
environment, landscaped garden courtyards
by Urban Design Landscape Architects (UDLA)
provide inviting private outdoor areas for specific
use by rehabilitation patients.
