CHRISTOU, the multi-use Cannington
Leisureplex has rejuvenated and enlivened the
The complex is comprised of a cluster of
buildings, and includes a swimming hall, an
international standard sports hall, gymnasium,
library, function and community areas, and
300 car bays.
The intricate project incorporates the latest
environmentally sustainable design initiatives,
including a grey water recycling system, a unique
pool filtration system, passive solar design, natural
ventilation in the sports and swimming halls,
thermal insulation, double and performance solar
control glazing on windows and solar control
louvres for shading. Environmentally conscious
materials, including recyclable steel framing and
zinc cladding, and sustainably sourced timbers,
were a key part of the brief.
The interior design focuses on finishes that
are timeless, hard-wearing, environmentally
sustainable and easy to maintain. The neutral
palette of whites and greys is overlaid with a
vibrant colour theme for each area, such as
green tones in the library.
The client placed great importance on the clean
appearance and easy maintenance of the complex,
