NEW PERTH STADIUM AND SPORTS PRECINCT
At 60,000 seats, the new Perth Stadium and sports precinct on the Burswood Peninsula will have the
third-largest capacity in Australia, with a ‘fan-first’ experience in sports viewing and entertainment.
The project is currently in the procurement phase with a final design yet to be determined, but the
project brief is for a four-tiered stadium with world-class facilities focused on the visitor experience.
The vision is for it to form a permanent centrepiece for the redevelopment of the Burswood Peninsula.
The precinct will cover the north and south portions of the current Burswood golf course, and a lake
adjacent to the stadium offers potential for: picnic spots and a setting for events, such as small concerts
and an outdoor cinema; artificial beaches; a boardwalk for cafes, bars and restaurants; and northern
parklands of around 27,000sqm.
A $298 million bus-train-road-pedestrian plan has already been designed with a view to
transporting an estimated 50,000 people from the stadium precinct by public transport networks
within an hour of the completion of an event. The State Government, along with the Department
of Sport & Recreation, Department of Treasury - Strategic Projects, and the Public Transport Authority,
has a hand in delivering the final precinct project.
$690 million for the stadium works, and $298 million for supporting infrastructure
TIMELINE The stadium will be ready in time for the start of the 2018 AFL season
The New Perth Stadium precinct comprises approximately 6ha,
while The Burswood Master Plan Precinct comprises 73ha overall
“High-quality design outcomes are crucial for
these major projects, which are the centrepiece
of what is happening in Perth. High-quality
aesthetics, as well as functional aspects, are an
important ingredient in making the experiences
enjoyable and successful for people who visit.”
– State Planning Minister John Day
