The much-anticipated Perth Arena opened at the end of last year, answering
the State’s call for a dedicated entertainment and sporting venue.
It is the only purpose-built, multi-purpose entertainment arena within
an inner urban area in the nation, and is the only Australian arena designed
primarily for entertainment purposes, and with a roof that can be pulled back
to cater for sporting events.
Designed by architects Cameron Chisholm Nicol and Ashton Raggatt McDougall
along with consultants RTKL (Los Angeles), Perth Arena includes capacity for up
to 15,500 people, state-of-the-art acoustic design, a 697-bay underground car
park, five function rooms and a swag of corporate suites.
Inspiration came from the Round House in Fremantle, with the design
evolving into a visual metaphor of a giant puzzle where each piece represents
a part of a bigger whole; a city, a state, a collective of people, places and ideas.
The Arena marked the first stage of the Perth City Link project and will connect
with other design components as the project evolves.
TIMELINE Opened November 2012
Capacity of up to 15,500 people for concerts
