irmly based in the heart of the Wheatbelt
in Goomalling, WA, Floating Edge Design
is in prime position to manufacture
stunning one-off pieces that utilise rare
and unique single slabs of WA hardwoods.
Founded by brothers Brad and Mike McGill, the
company uses a combination of state-of-the-art
machinery and traditional hand tools and joinery
methods to create distinctive pieces destined to
become family heirlooms.
Ensuring that no two pieces are the same,
all designs are carefully planned and built to
order, making them the perfect focus point in
any commercial setting.
Rich in colour, beauty and strength,
jarrah, marri, karri and sheoak are amongst
the most highly prized hardwoods anywhere
in the world. Furthermore, most of the timber
at Floating Edge is several hundred years old
– the company’s ancient kauri stock has actually
been radio carbon dated from between 4000 and
35,000 years old.
The team at Floating Edge is very much aware
that Western Australian hardwoods are a rapidly
diminishing resource. It is for this reason that they
are very proactive in ensuring all materials are
sourced using environmentally friendly practices.
Taking its dedication to sustainability a step further,
Floating Edge has committed to planting 10 trees for
every piece it manufactures.
