The Brook Bar & Bistro | BADGE HOSPITALITY
ADGE took home the 2011 MBA
Construction Excellence Award for Best
Retail Building under $10 million, after
translating a stunning modern design by
Oldfield Knott Architects.
Consisting of three bars, a large back-of-house
area, commercial kitchen, mezzanine and alfresco
dining areas, the finished result overcame several
challenges presented by the complexity of its design.
The operators wanted the building to be noted
for its excellence in quality, including cabinets,
floors and wall finishes. BADGE combined these
with multiple colours and textures, paying
great attention to detail to ensure a harmonious
and durable final product.
A total of 130 tonnes of steel was used to
create the main structure of the building, which
was constructed with tilt-up concrete. More
than 80 per cent of the external building design
consisted of stone cladding alongside coloured
glass and high-gloss vitra panels that had to
work together and flow.
The aesthetically pleasing alfresco area
features cedar linings to the verandahs, and
the incorporation of a living wall.
BADGE would like to extend their thanks to
Rob Schmidt from Aria Projects and Graham
Gaunt from Oldfield Knott Architects for their
enormous support through to the completion
of the project.
