KDC provided Interior Design and
Project Management services to
Downer EDi Mining when they
relocated to their new offices. The
new office layout utilised wide corridors, natural
light, planters, natural products and materials to
exude a calm, mature space with a timeless quality.
Collaborating closely with the client and licensed
builder Dawn Express, MKDC created a durable and
robust environment that will not date over time.
Planning guidelines and restrictions by the
owners of the building were typical of a new
development, and a key criterion was to ensure
that there were no solid elements abutting the
internal glazed atrium.
Key features include timber panelling in the
boardroom and reception, in addition to a silver-
travertine-tiled reception floor. The quartz carpet
flooring used in the staff hub was a new product
that was impeccably installed by the builder.
A strong focus was given to the use of timber,
with a mix of oak, American white oak and
A floating timber wall was created as a feature
for the boardroom, and timber privacy screening
was installed in the reception.
On the whole, the Downer EDi Mining office
is an easy-to-navigate space, where all staff
can enjoy a clear vista through to the external
perimeter glazing and the natural light.
Thanks to sufficient forward planning and a thorough briefing, Downer
EDi Mining now boasts a cool, elegant and casual office environment
