A new, state-of-the-art home for some of Australia’s
brightest minds. The innovative design by Hames
Sharley (in collaboration with UK firm LCE) draws on
international examples, making it among the world’s
best facilities. Spread over 10 levels on the QEII Medical
Centre site in Nedlands, the building will house about
800 researchers and staff from bodies such as the Lions
Eye Institute, Heart Research Institute and The University
of Western Australia.
“This new building will bring together leading
laboratory-based scientists and clinical researchers
across a range of fields from around the globe,” says
Health Minister Kim Hames.
It also includes space for public education, seminar
rooms, offices, an auditorium and roof-garden cafe.
The centre has a strong sustainability focus, designed
to achieve a five-star equivalent Green Building Council
of Australia rating.
