Covering 42ha off Beeliar Drive, this residential,
retail and leisure space will service 200,000 people.
Residents have already moved into new
apartments, close to public transport and shops. In
all, Cockburn Central will provide 1000 homes.
Commercial development has begun on Beeliar
Drive, with a major shopping centre now open, and
further development will continue.
The development has already received several
urban planning awards.
COST An estimated $580 million has been committed
to stage one and two of development
(excluding LandCorp investment)

LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM
Perth’s population is predicted to swell to 2.2
million by 2031, doubling public transport needs.
To cater for this, the State Government released
its 20-year public transport plan last July,
including plans for a light rail service. Around
$130 million worth of light rail carriages will
be rolled out in two stages to service the Perth
CBD and surrounding suburbs to the north
(Stirling and Mirabooka), west (Subiaco) and
east (Belmont) – as well as the University of
Western Australia and Curtin University. A
further $1 billion will be spent on infrastructure.
COST $1.13 billion for infrastructure and 29 light rail
vehicles ($4.5 million each, replacing 65 buses)
TIMELINE Stage one (Perth CBD, Mirabooka, Curtin
University, UWA) before 2020, and stage t wo
(Subiaco, Kewdale) fully delivered by 2031
