FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL
This will be the premier health facility in Western Australia, servicing communities south of Perth
and across the State. Construction is already underway on the Murdoch site, which covers a space
equivalent to four city blocks. The design – a collaboration between Hames Sharley, Silver Thomas
Hanley and HASSELL – features five main buildings and 783 beds.
Using state-of-the-art technology, this facility will become a major treatment centre for burns,
rehabilitation and trauma. There will be comprehensive cancer services including radiotherapy and
medical oncology. A mental health unit and mother and baby unit are also planned.
Environmental sustainability is a key focus of the development. The State Government is investing
more than $5 million into conservation programs and work such as fauna relocation, and flora and
seed collection. Bushland will also be preserved on site, with landscaped parks, internal gardens and
courtyards contributing to a tranquil atmosphere.
Importantly, public transport makes the hospital readily accessible. It is located less than one
kilometre from the Murdoch bus and rail interchange, and along with cycle options this will help
reduce the need for private vehicles.
COST $2 billion
TIMELINE Completion from 2014
150,000sqm of floor space, plus 5ha of bushland, parks and gardens
