Cross + Design Group
STEVES FINE WINE FOOD, NEDLANDS
Steves Fine Wine & Food owner Murray McHenry
hired Cross + Design Group to transform a once-
popular student bar location into an upmarket
wine bar and eatery.
Cross + Design Group director Brandon Cross
and his team of highly qualified professionals
worked with Murray to ensure only the finest
finishes and fittings were used, from furniture to
paint colour selection.
e design was centred on light fittings, which
Brandon imported from Spain. All other aspects
of design complemented these, including the
specially designed furniture, cutting edge "trestle
style" dry bars and the feature timberwork.
Creating a relaxing and welcoming ambience
was also imperative. An EcoSmart fire acts as a
centrepiece in the restaurant and bar area. It features
transparent surrounds to ensure unobstructed river
views. Facing the river, sheer curtains partly conceal
a glass wall providing protection and allowing
diffused light to filter through.
All of this design work was done after the
team overcame several challenges, including
working with the existing structural elements of
the building, and ensuring that the restaurant,
bar and adjoining bottle shop could function
autonomously but also act as a space for large
functions, if necessary.
e commercial feel of the bottle shop also
added an interesting touch with the use of
stainless steel cool rooms, commercial lighting
and hard wax timber floors.
