This is one butcher who is ahead of the
times. Touting an interactive website
called askthebutcher.com and employing
Dreamtime Australia Design to create
a meaty wonderland for their Woollahra
store was going above and beyond what
we expected from a boutique butcher.
And we like the result.
The brief was to create a unique butcher
shop experience, blending a traditional
European butchery in look and feel with
modern, cutting-edge design elements.
Dreamtime was intrigued and set about
creating a shop that has the potential to
redefine the "local butcher shop" worldwide.
Greeting customers are sausage link
door handles -- one of the first quirky and
fabulous features Dreamtime incorporated.
Rich timber wall panelling, a timber beam
ceiling and an Italian Calacatta marble slab
stone floor compose the base materials.
Instead of customers approaching a
refrigerated butcher counter, there is a
"stage" behind floor-to-ceiling glass where
the butchers work within a refrigerated
space. The space has round timber butcher
blocks surrounded by recessed in-floor
lights with a historical sandstone rubble
wall as a backdrop.
The back-of-house sta dining room
(which doubles as a meeting room) has
two walls -- one with floor-to-ceiling
wallpaper and black and white photos
of the shop's history.
And the best part? Not one piece of
plastic parsley in sight.
