Interior designer Matthew Sheargold
had only just started up his own business,
Sheargold, after leaving a large firm when
he was o ered the chance to pitch for the
Red Bull o ces in Alexandria.
Matthew's young and fresh appeal won
him the job and a commendation for the
finished product at the 2009 Australian
Interior Design Awards.
Matthew was faced with the challenge of
representing both of Red Bull's images -- its
energetic, fun public image and the highly
successful, well-oiled business machine
behind the scenes.
The result was varied facilities, aimed at
appealing to the way di erent personalities
thrive in di erent environments.
Some traditional facilities blended
with new ideas, such as a meeting room
manifesting itself as a grassy hill. And why
not host a meeting on a basketball court or
cricket pitch within the walls of your o ce?
The building selected for the Red Bull
fortress became two, as Matthew tracked
down two freestanding yet connected
heritage buildings. As Red Bull would be
the only tenant, he created the notion of
"Red Bull Town".
Red Bull Town grew to include concepts
like parks, a town library to form the heart,
and a rooftop bar and deck which provide
a lunchroom, informal meeting space and
fully functioning bar.
The materials used reflect the urban
nature of the building and Red Bull's urban
edge. Black, recycled flooring rubber covers
the walls, a 12m-high wall of Red Bull cans
towers over reception and a wall of pins
adorns a meeting room.
